17 Miles in the Books

Was in West Bend this weekend and decided to hit the Eisenbahn Trial to get in my 17 miles. https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/name/eisenbahn/

Earlier in the week I printed off an online map to prepare some bathroom and water stops.

For me- it was about 1.5 miles to the trail – winding down some residential streets and hitting the trail around the 10 mile marker- I began my journey.

Heading north along the trail I passed several parks and the conservancy. 3.5 ish miles in was Barton Park. A little single field baseball diamond, little tikes playground equipment and a pavilion with bathrooms and a water fountain.

I missed the park- which is the last water refill and bathrooms for 10 miles on my route- and had to back track maybe .3 miles. I thought I would see it from the trail- but nope! It’s a little off the beaten path, but still super easy to find. The exit to Barton Park is right – literally- where the trail turns from being paved to gravel.

Shortly after there is also a really cool bridge!

The trail is awesome but soon turns to highway noise and the view of cars speeding by as the trail hugs the highway into Kewaskum. Not used to trails and getting attached by a few mosquitos- I turned around before I could get a glimpse of Kewaskum.

While the weather was low 70’s – it was very humid! I needed a water refill at Barton Park again on the return trip.

This year I bought myself a child’s camelbak -best thing EVER!

Around mile 15-my right hip could feel the pounding. The next two miles I did a little walking and my average pace came to almost 12 minute miles at the conclusion of my run. Because I turned around early I had to run past my trail exit point another 3/4 of a mile or so and then come back.

The paved trail in West Bend is quite lovely. But the gravel kicked my behind.

Today, Monday – a little stuff but barre class tonight has me shiny and new again!

When in doubt – just RUNt!
